Oregon Permit Test FAQs

How many questions are on the real Oregon permit test?
The Oregon Class C knowledge test contains 35 multiple-choice questions covering road signs, traffic laws and other information drivers need to know.

What score do I need to pass?

You must answer at least 28 of the 35 questions correctly, which is an 80% passing score.

How much does the Oregon knowledge test cost?
Each Oregon Class C knowledge-test attempt costs $7. After you meet the requirements, an original Class C instruction permit costs $30.

Can I take the Oregon permit test online?

Yes. Oregon offers the official Class C knowledge test online through DMV2U as well as at DMV offices. For online testing, you need a desktop or laptop computer with a keyboard, mouse and webcam; phones, tablets and other touchscreen devices cannot be used. Applicants under 18 must be supervised by a proctor aged 21 or older.

What should I bring to the Oregon DMV office?
Bring proof of your identity and date of birth, proof of your Oregon residential address, and your Social Security number or certify that you do not have one. Applicants under 18 need a parent or legal guardian’s signature. Additional documentation is required if you choose a REAL ID permit.

What happens if I fail?
If you fail the Oregon knowledge test at a DMV office, you may be able to test again the same day depending on testing availability. Online, you may take the test no more than twice in any 24-hour period and no more than four times online in total. After four online attempts, further attempts must be completed at a DMV office.
