How many questions are on the real Tennessee permit test?
The Tennessee Class D knowledge test contains 30 multiple-choice questions covering traffic signs and signals, rules of the road, safe-driving principles, and alcohol and drug laws.
What score do I need to pass?
You must score at least 24 correct questions out of 30. This is equivalent to at least 80% correct.
How much does the Tennessee knowledge test cost?
A Tennessee learner permit costs $10.50 for applicants under 18 and $5.50 for applicants aged 18 or older. If you fail a PD, Class D or hardship knowledge test, Tennessee charges a $2 application fee for each failed attempt.
Can I take the Tennessee permit test online?
Eligible Tennessee residents aged 15–17 can take the official Driver License Knowledge Test online under the supervision of a parent or legal guardian using Tennessee's Proctor Identification (PID) system. Applicants may also take the knowledge test at a Driver Services Center.
What should I bring to the Tennessee DMV office?
Bring the required original or certified documents proving citizenship or lawful presence, your Social Security number and Tennessee residency. Applicants under 18 also need the required school-attendance documentation and parental or guardian authorization.
What happens if I fail?
If you fail the Tennessee knowledge test, you must wait at least one day before taking it again. No test may be repeated on the same day, and a $2 application fee applies after a failed PD, D or hardship test.
