What score do I need to pass?

You must answer at least 19 of the 25 questions correctly, which is a passing score of 76%.

How much does the West Virginia test cost?
The West Virginia knowledge test costs $7.50 per attempt. A Level 1 GDL instruction permit also has a $7.50 fee.

Can I take the West Virginia permit test online?

Yes. West Virginia allows applicants to take the knowledge test online from home through its secure online testing service. You need a computer with a webcam, keyboard and mouse or mouse pad; the test cannot be taken on a phone or touchscreen device.

What should I bring to the West Virginia DMV office?
First-time applicants generally need proof of identity, proof of Social Security number and two proofs of West Virginia residency. Applicants under 18 also need parental or guardian consent and a current School Driver Eligibility Certificate, unless an accepted graduation or education document applies.

What happens if I fail?
If you fail the knowledge test because of incorrect answers, you must wait seven days before taking it again. A new test fee applies for another attempt.
